Home Learning

As per our home-learning policy, the expectation is that every child reads every day.

At Bushey Manor, our ‘Weekly Reading Challenge’ is having the Reading Record signed on 7 occasions across the week, after reading – this can be reading to ANY adult for at least 15 – 20 minutes per day.

The class that has the highest percentage of readers each week gets to have Stormzy, the hamster, in their class the following week.

Children will still be given a group of words, linked to a spelling rule, to learn. However, when tested, a selection of the words will be chosen and each will be read out as part of a sentence that the children will write. This dictation approach, will enable the children to practise their punctuation and common words, as well as the words linked to the rule they have been learning.

As per our home-learning policy, the expectation is that every child works on their number facts knowledge every day.

This will involve learning and knowing your times-tables as inside out and back to front as possible, as well as knowing your number facts and fractions.

Please check the Useful Information and Resources section for links to fun websites to help you.

As a school, we have started using ‘Mathletics’; a scheme designed to encourage children to practise their Maths skills online. Each child has a personal log-in and can be set activities for them to complete. As they complete tasks, children earn points and can print off certificates.
