What an exciting first week back at school!
The first day was a lovely opportunity to talk about all that had happened over the Summer, including holidays, trips and people we met. It was great to be back at school and we all had an enjoyable day.
In English, we have been learning about non – chronological reports. We have been finding out all about peregrine falcons and collecting lots of information about them, ready to write a report in small groups. Eventually, we will choose our own animals to write about that live in our local environment. We will compare and contrast our local environment with the ones seen in the Lion King, ready for our trip to see the show!
In Maths, we have been learning all about place value. We played a game called ‘Zappit’ where we had to subtract a number using our knowledge of place value. We also played a game called ‘Largest Number Wins’, where we had to use the signs < and > to compare numbers and decide which one was the largest. We really enjoyed this game!
In Geography, we have been learning about the features of a map including the Northern and Southern hemisphere, the equator and even naming the continents and oceans! We have been doing lots of exploring with the atlases in our class and are getting better at using the index and co-ordinates to find different places.
In Art, we have been talking about different journeys, including the journey of life! We have been talking about the journey Simba goes through in Lion King, the different landscapes he might have walked through and the significant events in his life. We will think about our own journeys through life and the landscapes that we have encountered to represent an imaginary journey using different art techniques.
