Bushey Manor Junior School

Learning and achieving together

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Head of School: Miss Kate Fiddler

Week 1

Welcome to Year 3! What a fun, exciting and 'bouncy' week we have had!

Earlier in the week, we thoroughly enjoyed an assembly that took place inside a large inflatable bouncy ring! Mrs Djora, our new Associate Headteacher, wanted all of us to realise just how fun learning can be!

Throughout the week, we read and explored the book 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward. It tells the story of a lonely boy called George, who, like the dragons, was regularly ignored and went unnoticed. All of this changes when he spots his first dragon, and it isn't long before the adventures began. We really enjoyed using the book as a stimulus for our creative work. At the start of the week, we designed our own dragons and had to think carefully about our beast's appearance, hobbies and food preferences. We made dragon tails and stuck them all around the school to make people believe that our dragons were hiding in Bushey Manor! In the story, George has to help the dragons return home so we created maps of where the dragons could live. Apparently dragons are often spotted in Rainbow Land, flying around Black Holes and hiding in dark caves in the Amazon rainforest! To finish the week, we used all of our ideas to write an interesting adventure story about dragons and then created comic strips on the Ipads using an app called ComicHead Lite.

Aside from our English work, we also enjoyed playing a variety of dice games in Maths, showed excellent team-work skills during our P.E. session and painted pebbles, which will be added to our Growth Mindset Garden.

Writing this now makes me realise just how much we have already covered in such a short period of time! The children have all settled in really well to life at Bushey Manor and have worked incredibly hard all week. Keep up the great work, M3! (Photos from the week will be uploaded on Monday.)

I hope to see lots of you at the parents 'Meet the Teacher' sessions on Thursday at 2.30pm and 5.00pm.
