The focus in English this week has been sentence construction and punctuation. The children have carefully identified compound and complex sentences and then written their own. The stimulus for the sentence writing is our book Private Peaceful. As the story unfolds the children are engrossed, and are enjoying sharing opinions and exploring their feelings regarding the characters. Through the book we look at, primarily, what it was like to be a young man during the time of World War One but also how it affected the family and those back home.
Maths this week has seen the children practising a whole range of Maths skills. Such as long multiplication through a wide variety of problem solving based on real life problems. They have been completely engaged in working out problems that reflect school life.
Next week the focus will be long division.
PE saw the start of Fitter Future in year 6. The children joined in the exercises with great gusto…until they ran out of breath! It was fun as we all joined in (me included) trying to keep pace as well as keep count! We then followed this by Yoga. This was calming and enjoyed by…most!
Mr Lazzara began dance with our children and they embraced it very well. I was impressed by their Salsa moves, particularly the boys who were excellent in their synchronisation.
Booster classes went well with children seeing the benefits of extra teaching and coaching. Well done to all who have attended and are keen to build up and hone their skills.
