Our first swimming lesson this week was a huge success. Our swimming coach complimented the children on their excellent behaviour and fantastic swimming skills. She commented that she's never had a class with so many confident swimmers before.
I maths this week we have been focusing on two methods of adding, and when to use each method. The first method involves rounding to the nearest 10 then adjusting. So to add nine to a number you would add 10 and then take away 1. To add 29 you would add 30 and take away one. We also recapped bridging 10, which is when you partition and add up to the next ten. So for 18 + 7, we would add 2 to get to bridge the ten, then add the remaining 5. Both methods are modeled by the children, the photos of this week.
In English we have found out about the key features of a newspaper. If you get a chance this weekend have a look at newspapers with your child. Look at the headlines, and the language used. Next week we'll be writing our own reports.
Keep practising number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 at home. We've started a new weekly challenge for the children to answer as many number bond questions as they can in a minute. The children will be looking to improve their score every week.
Maths - We'll be continuing our work on addition and subtraction, looking at written methods such as column addition.
English - We'll be writing our own newspaper reports.
Art - Continuing our art inspired by fruit and veg.
On Friday we're having a whole school Easter egg decorating competition, don't forget to send your entires in.
