Bushey Manor Junior School

Learning and achieving together

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Executive Head Mrs C Holliman

Week 11 - 25th November

This week in English, we have been writing our own Greek myths. It was important to plan our myths carefully so that they were chronological and made sense. We had to think carefully about our characters and include lots of description so that the reader would know more about them. We used ‘clues’ to help the reader to understand a bit about that character’s personality through their actions and speech.  We thought carefully about our settings and what elements of magic our myths would have. Next week, we will begin reading and exploring ‘Leon and The Place Between’ by Grahame Baker-Smith. We will write diary entries based on this magical text.

In Maths, we have been learning about shapes, measuring accurately and converting in cm and mm and finding the perimeter of rectangles using a special code: P = 2W + 2L (Perimeter = 2 x width + 2 x length). We have continued using our knowledge of 2d shapes to identify their properties (regular, irregular, vertices, sides, angles, parallel lines, lines of symmetry. Next week, we will look at a range of charts and graphs to see what information we can find. We will be making our own tally charts, bar charts and pictograms.

With a speed stacking competition coming up, we have all been practicing at school and learning new techniques to help us to be quick and accurate. We will also be competing in a Bushey Manor competition at a later date.
