This week, we have continued with our learning based around the story of Edward Tulane. We wrote as if we were Edward and outlined our experiences and emotions in a letter to our owner, Abilene. We talked about how the character had changed as the story progressed and how we think it might end. We are really enjoying this story and learning about Edward’s different adventures. Next week, we will finish the story and write from a character’s perspective about their time with Edward.
In Maths, we have been revising our learning of 2d shapes. We used lots of different vocabulary to describe regular and irregular 2d shapes. Some of the words we used were:
Angles (right angle, obtuse and acute)
Regular and irregular
Equilateral, isosceles and scalene triangles
Pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon and decagon
Draw a shape and ask your child what they can tell you about it!
In DT, we have begun our unit on Pop-Up Books. We will look at each technique in turn (box fold, mouth fold, slider, lift-the-flap, rotating pop-up, paper spring pop-up), practising how to make it and then using the technique to make a scene based on our class story: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
On Thursday was our transition day where the children were able to meet with their new teachers for the next academic year. M4’s new teacher will be Mrs Terry so they spent the day with her preparing for the new academic year.
