Week 2 – 12th September
Having completed our second week of the Autumn Term, we are settling in nicely and getting into our daily routines. In class we are getting used to working in our groups and working hard to try and earn as many Achievements Points as possible!
In English, we have continued our work on non – chronological reports. We have used the information we collected about peregrine falcons to each write a paragraph and then worked in groups to produce our own non-chronological report. Next week we will be going on our Wildlife Walk and collecting information about animals that can be found in our locality. After further research we will write a report on an animal of our choice.
On Tuesday we celebrated Roald Dahl Day and wrote our own description of a Horrible Head Teacher. Our descriptions were really horrible and we realised that we are lucky that we have never had a such horrible Head teacher as the ones we wrote about!
In Maths, we have been learning all about rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We used our knowledge of place value to round the numbers we were given. A few of us found it rather tricky but we persevered and are feeling more confident now.
Next week we are really looking forward to using and applying our maths skills to preparing for our Enterprise Project.
In Geography, we continued to use atlases to find out information about the Arctic and Antarctic and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Did you know that in the tropics it is always hot, even when it rains?
This week saw our first P.E. session with our new coach, Mr Lazara. We worked hard, in really hot weather, to develop our hockey skills. We practised our passing and defending techniques.
We had our first Music lesson, in our new Music Room, with Miss Keogh. We had great fun learning a song.
On Friday we had a great time!! We had a Project Day where we completed a range of activities linked to the theme of ‘Lighthouses’. We used our English skills to write a letter; our Maths skills to compare and order the sizes of lighthouses; our Science skills to create circuits and our Art and DT skills to start designing and making a lighthouse. All-in-all, a jam-packed day!!
