This week we have fully immersed ourselves into our topic for the half term ‘Ancient Greeks’. We have already looked at two Greek Myths: Daedalus and Icarus and Pandora’s box and we have explored the powerful language used to create such exciting stories, along with exploring character feeling and emotion.
As an introduction to ICT and History combined, we have used iPads and other secondary sources to find out facts about Ancient Greece which linked in perfectly with our PE lessons. From the information we have found out, M4 are creating their very own Ancient Greek Olympics. We will practise a different skill each week and then bring them all together before half term for ‘Marvellous 4 Olympics event’. We were fascinated to find out that ‘Trumpeting’ was an event held – the winner being who could make the loudest sound with a trumpet! – we have been wondering how to incorporate this…
In maths, our learning has taken us further along the Place Value path. We have used some really interactive games to explore number and place value even further than last week. The Place Value Bingo was a definite favourite!
We have enjoyed our Jeans for Genes day celebrations and this enjoyment was extended to preparing ourselves for Ms Djora’s paper plane competition. Thinking along the theme of ‘aiming high’ in our work, Ms Djora has asked each class to conduct a paper aeroplane throwing competition; the winner will then be entered into the whole school competition next week!
We are now anticipating our trip to the British Museum with excitement. This will support our learning and understanding of Ancient Greek times and hopefully provide us with that ‘WOW’ factor. Watch this space for lots of photos.
