This week began with another interesting assembly with Mrs Djora - the theme this week was 'Aiming High!' A group of children and teachers were given 30 seconds to design and make a paper aeroplane and then compete against each other to find out who could fly it the furthest. As part of our 'Class Time' on Friday, we repeated the competition to find out who was the 'Paper Aeroplane Champion' in M3. The winner was Frank and he will now go on to compete in the finals on Monday morning. Good luck, Frank!
In English this week, we continued our work on 'The Minpins'. We started the week using evidence from the text to infer what we thought was chasing the main character, Billy, through the forest. We used clues such as 'mighty puffs of smoke', 'disgusting breath' and 'gigantic galloping hooves' to help us visualise the 'thing', and we drew pictures as to what we thought it looked like. We then wrote a character description using interesting adjectives, adverbs and verbs. Towards the end of the week, we began to learn more about the life of the Minpins. We found out that they were tiny people who lived in the trees and each had a house that was built inside the hollow tree trunks. Next week, we will be finding out more about the life of the Minpins and whether they can help Billy escape from the beast.
In Maths, we continued to explore the concept of Place Value. We used a variety of manipulatives, including dienes and place value grids, to make, show and explain how to find the value of a digit. We also spent time developing our Mental Maths skills, particularly our times tables.
We were all very excited today to find out that we have a school pet - a dwarf hamster called Stormzy! During Friday's assembly, Miss Fiddler explained to us that the class winners of the 'Weekly Reading Challenge' would be able to have Stormzy in their class as a treat for the week. We are now really keen to get reading and get our Reading Records signed in the hope of winning our time with Stormzy.
