This week in English, we have been looking at a variety of persuasive texts including leaflets and TV adverts. We discussed what makes them so persuasive and discovered that advertising companies have many tricks up their sleeves including; colour, slogans, music, stories, bossy verbs, adjectives, feel-good words and much more! We came up with our own slogans for a variety of different products and talked about what persuaded us the most. We will use these skills to write a persuasive leaflet about Gaveston Hall. We hope to eventually put this on to a PowerPoint presentation using our skills from our Computing lessons!
In Maths, we have been learning how to find the area and perimeter of different shapes. We identified that perimeter is the length of all the sides of the shape added together and the area is the space inside the shape.
We then moved on to find the perimeter of rectilinear or compound shapes. First, we had to find out the missing sides. We used our problem solving skills to help us. Then we added all of the sides to find the perimeter. We started finding the area. Some of us will use squares to help us.
In Computing, we went into the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and have been learning how to create folders in which to store our work. We will be finding out how to copy and paste files, text and pictures.
We were lucky enough to have Mrs Bastable come to teach us RE. She told us all about Psalm 23 in the Bible and what it means to Christians. We represented different lines from the Psalm using pictures and we hope to enter these into a competition! We also learnt about David and Goliath and how David used his courage to battle Goliath.
