In English this week, we continued our work linked to the text ‘Bill’s New Frock’ by Anne Fine. We looked at and used prepositional phrases and thought about how characters would feel at different parts of the story. We started planning our own story following the same theme: what might happen, and how would we feel, if we suddenly changed into the opposite gender. On Friday we wrote our opening paragraph using the features we had practised. Next week we will be continuing our own accounts of a day in the life of a boy/girl.
In Maths, we continued our work on fractions and linked them to decimals. We investigated place values, ordering and rounding of decimals. It was quite challenging but we are improving. We started to improve our place value mental maths skills using a Gettegno chart (See Useful Resources - Maths). Next week we will be reviewing our decimal work and starting work on division.
In Science we have started a new topic on States of Matter. We have investigated the properties of solids, liquids and gases. We were asked to place different materials into groups depending on their characteristics. We used a range of criteria including hard, soft, flexible, solid, liquid and gas. Next week we will carry on with our investigations.
