This week in English, the children have been learning all about Greek Myths. They were captivated by the stories we read. We read Pandora’s Box, Freedom for Prometheus, Daedalus and Icarus and Theseus and the Minotaur. They were able to express opinions and were really good at making predictions based on what we had already read. The children wrote the main events of Daedalus and Icarus and will be writing their own versions of this story next week.
In Maths, the children have been learning how to write using Roman numerals and have enjoyed playing games such as Roman Numeral Bingo and Roman Numeral Pairs. They have been consolidating their knowledge of place value, recapping how to round and how to find 10, 100 or 1000 more or less than a given number. Next week, we will begin our unit on Geometry and Measures, learning about 2d shapes, symmetry and angles.
Continuing with our Greeks theme, in History, the children all became archaeologists at the start of the week. They explored the remains that were found in a cave in Greece and looked carefully at the artefacts to help us to understand who it was that was buried in the cave. They also looked at maps to find Greece and created a timeline to understand when the Ancient Greeks existed in time. The children really enjoyed finding out interesting facts about the Ancient Greeks that were a little unusual compared to our lives today!
On Thursday, all of the children in the House Team, Air, were able to wear their own clothes for day as a reward for achieving the most achievement points for the first half term. The other children have decided to work even harder to try to win this reward next time!
