What a marvellous second week we have had in M5. After an assembly listening to a mixture of adults reading their favourite Roald Dahl books, we came back to class and began reading The Witches. We found the descriptions of the witches most shocking and were looking for any clues they had snuck into Bushey Manor in disguise as teachers!
Later on in the week, we looked at some poems from Roald Dahl’s book Dirty Beasts. We found a variety of techniques and features in these poems, including: onomatopoeia, alliteration and rhyming couplets. We borrowed these techniques to create our own Roald Dahl style poems. Next week we are going to be continuing this, writing poems about witches around the world.
Outside of Roald Dahl week, we have continued our work from the book ‘The Day the Crayons Came Home’. Researching places for Pea Green crayon (Esteban the Magnificent) to explore, we carried this over to Maths where we were measuring and comparing distances, budgeting for the adventure and comparing time differences across countries. Next week, we will continue to write our adventure stories. It has been fantastic to see the children so engaged in their learning, even continuing their research at home. If you have any photos or extra information for your stories, it’s not too late to bring it in!
Thank you to everyone who came to a Meet the Teacher session. If you could not make it, the information has also been uploaded to the webpage also.
