As we reach the end of another week, we are going to begin a new topic in maths: BIDMAS! Also known as 'Order of Operations', BIDMAS is the order that we have to complete calculations when there is more than one operation within the calculation. For example, if you were given the calculation 3 + 2 x 5 = , you would need to know whether to complete 2 x 5 or 3 + 2 first. Try answering the calculation both ways... do you see how the answer is different? We need to know that multiplication must be completed before addition to ensure we get the correct answer of 13.

B = Brackets (any part of the calculation inside brackets MUST be done first)

I = Indices (squared or cubed numbers - ensure you find the square or cube number before anything else!)

D = Division

M = Multiplication

A = Addition

S = Subtraction

It is unlikely that you would be asked to complete a calculation with all of the above operations in, so for each questions section out the different operations and decide which you need to do first. If you are struggling with this, then PLEASE contact Mrs Terry or Miss Gregory; we are here to help and can talk you through anything you need. Good luck, and share your achievements and progress!
