As per our Home Learning policy, the expectation is that every child reads every day.
At Bushey Manor, our ‘Weekly Reading Challenge’ is having the Reading Record signed on at least 7 occasions across the week, after reading – this can be reading to ANY adult for at least 15 – 20 minutes per day.
As a school, we are now signed up to Bug Club. This is an online platform where children can be allocated books to read. As they read, there are bug questions to answer. Children can earn virtual coins to 'spend' on the site. As long as the Reading Record is signed, Bug Club reading can count towards the Weekly Reading Challenge. See below for the link.
In Year 3, we now have the added incentive of earning extra play on a Friday afternoon, along with receiving Achievement Points for being a Super Reader.
Pupils who read 7, or more, times each week receive a Super Reader raffle ticket. This is put into a box and, at the end of term, tickets are drawn out giving the winners the opportunity to win books. At the end of the Autumn Term, there were also 2 Kindles up for grabs!
