I hope that everyone had a fantastic holiday and are ready for the new year!
We had a busy but fun first week back! In English, we started our first topic of the year, 'Dragons'. We read a lovely book called 'Tell Me a Dragon' by Jackie Morris and created a vocabulary bank all about the dragons in the story. Using the images in the book as inspiration, we then drew our own dragons and described the appearance of our creatures. Over the next few weeks, we are going to be using a variety of texts to explore dragons further. We are going to be writing a set of instructions about how to care for a dragon, writing newspaper reports about a dragon sighting and finish the half term writing some dragon poetry.
In Maths, we have begun to develop our understanding of place value. We used the dienes to represent a variety of numbers and then discussed the value of the digits. Next week, we are going to be continuing to explore place value.
On Friday, we had our first PE session. This half term, we are going to be developing our gymnastic skills and this week we were exploring the shapes we can make with our bodies. Have a look at the photos and see if you can work out which letters and words we are trying to spell!
Don't forget, our New to Year 3 Meeting is on Tuesday 11th September.
