Week 1

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a fun but relaxing half term break.

We are all very excited about our new topic - the Stone Age! This week we were introduced to the topic and recorded information and facts that we already knew about this prehistoric time period. At the end of the week, we became archaeologists and studied a variety of Stone Age artefacts. We had to use our understanding of Stone Age life to decide what the artefacts were made from and what they were used for. We found it hard to believe that the Stone Age people lived without electricity, particularly game consoles!

In our English sessions, we began to read a story called Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. It is about a boy who is transported back in time to the Stone Age period. He learns a lot about Stone Age life and has many adventures along the way. We started the week using clues from the front cover to predict what we thought would happen in the story. As the week progressed, we spent time describing the main settings in the story and noted similarities and differences between life in the Stone Age and life nowadays. Next week, we are going to be writing diary entries in the role of the boy, describing his time in the Stone Age camp.

In P.E., we started a new topic on Dance. We thought about the movements of hunter-gatherers in Stone Age times and began to produce short dance sequences that incorporated these ideas.

In Maths, we created addition and subtraction fact families using the Part Bar Model. We were also challenged to complete missing number problems using this method. Next week, we will be developing our understanding of written methods for addition.

Don't forget, next week is Well-Being Week and on Friday, we are going on our trip to Chiltern Open Air Museum (a reminder letter was sent out on Friday).
