M3 has had a fantastic first week back after our half term break. In English, we spent the first few days finalising our dragon sighting newspaper reports which involved all of our previous learning from the last couple of weeks. The children produced some amazing reports. Next week, we are starting a new unit of work using the text 'Stone Age Boy' which will be used as a model to write our own adventure stories.
In Maths, we have been finding out about addition and subtraction fact families. We found out that addition is commutative and that subtraction isn't. Next week, we will be starting to work on more formal written addition strategies.
I think the highlight of this week has been taking part in Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday. We were lucky enough to spend the majority of the day outside in the glorious winter sunshine. We started off our day making Bird Cakes where we used lard, oats, seeds, blackcurrants, and cheese which we then left to harden in the fridge overnight. Then we made Nature Mobiles which involved lots of teamwork and patience. We then went on a rather wet welly walk around the school grounds as well as the field next to our school where we saw a pond which some of us didn't know existed. We walked, we ran, we twirled and we squelched! We ended our day creating some Wild Art in small groups, the children came up with some amazing sculptures made out of all the materials they had found throughout the day.
It was a wonderful day and we are already looking forward to the next official Outdoor Classroom Day, which is on Thursday 21st May 2020. Why not write it in your diary and come and join us for the day?
There will be more pictures to follow, be sure to check back in a couple of days.
Another highlight of our week was being introduced to some Portuguese. A member of M3 brought in a very interesting book that has a story for every day of the year. They read it to the class and we decided that next week our goal will be to try and learn some of the months of the year!
