In English this week we have started using 'The Vanishing Rainforest' as a stimulus for our writing. We read the story which tells us about how people are destroying the Amazon rainforest and the impact is has on the people and animals who live there. We looked at the arguments for and against outsiders interacting with members of the Yanomami tribe. Next week we are going to be looking at the features of persuasive letters in preparation for writing our own.
In Maths, we have continued to develop our division skills. We have been using bar-modelling to share of numbers and a few of us even got as far as working on calculations with remainders. Next week, we will be applying our skills to division problems.
We began construction of our models, that will be using a pneumatic system, in D.T. We had to work carefully to ensure that all the parts were fixed together properly and helped each other as much as possible. Next week, we will add the decoration and pneumatic system.
On Tuesday we had a visitor in school. Ian Rose carried out a workshop with each class and did a whole school assembly. Ian Rose is an Olympic Speaker and a retired British Paralympian in the sport of Judo. He talked about how taking up Judo not only helped him significantly improve his self-confidence but also helped to alleviate the stigmas and prejudices of his disability. He was very inspiring.
