What a fantastic week of learning...today we culminated another successful week in Year 5 by making 'Blood Smoothies', yes you did read this correctly, 'Blood Smoothies'. To help us understand what blood is and what it is made of, we made our own smoothies, using: Strawberries, marshmallows, sprinkles and pineapple juice, to represent red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. Adding bananas, apples, oranges or a combination of these fruits, allowed us to consider blood type and who could donate to who and who couldn't. Our science is linked to our current class text - 'Pig Heart Boy', which the children are loving so far. We are currently in the process of rewriting the opening chapter, I can't wait to read their final pieces.
Throughout the week, we have been working on Vikings and creating our Knowledge Organisers - the children have loved finding out who some of the most influential Vikings were and where they came from.
Maths has seen us almost complete our unit of Place Value, the children have enjoyed playing games and devising their own questions to challenge their learning partners. Keep up the excellent effort.
